After the whole Jay-Z, Noel Gallagher, Glastonbury situation, it was bound to happen. Almost immediately after the Jackin’ Jay-Z Wonderwall mash by Dj Danny Diggz hits the net, Cookin’ Soul drops OJAYSIS. While it’s no White Album or, more appropriately, no Grey Album, OJAYSIS is an easy listen with creative grooves and blends. Download it here.

In the late-nineties, eLZhi made a name for himself by moving his way up through the ranks of Detroit’s underground scene and teaming up with Slum Village for his first big taste of success. He has since been making the rounds, working with local Detroit luminaries such as J Dilla, Waajeed of Platinum Pied Pipers, and Dwele, in addition to a well-received solo tour of Europe during his early years in the game. “Motown 25″ is the first single from eLZhi’s upcoming album The Preface.

After bumping into beat maker MIDIMarc via the alleyways of the internet, I was surprised I had not discovered him sooner. He’s been putting in major work this year releasing the No Lyrics Necessary Vol. 1 instrumental project, the All Souled Out Vol. 1 mixtape, and rack of remix projects starring MIDIMarc with Gza, Nas, Jay-Z and more. In fact, MIDIMarc’s “American Beatmaker” was the first “American Gangster” remix project to surface, hitting the net the same day everyone else was getting the acappellas.

Needless to say I love remixes, especially electronic/dance/club remixes of hip hop songs. It’s really the creativity that grabs me, and the ability to create a spin-off groove or sometimes create a groove where there was none before. About half of the songs I post are from my personal vaults and the other half are new to me. Here is one I found recently that caught my ear. Enjoy!
